    Resurrection

    Resurrection

    The Stone Roses Tribute

    Sat 5th Nov 2022 | Opium

‘Resurrection’ formed in 1998 & based in Glasgow, Scotland. They have toured with many celebrities including Mani (The Stone Roses/ex Primal Scream) with whom they performed live onstage with, at the world famous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, when Mani jumped up on stage to a rapturous applause & performed ‘She Bangs The Drums’ with the lads. The venue erupted & DF Concerts ‘staff’ were quoted as saying “It was the best night we have seen in here for a long time”.

They have toured with Inspiral Carpets members Clint Boon & Tom Hingley & also with Phil Smith (Oasis/Noel Gallagher tour DJ) & have many celebrity fans from bands such as The Stone Roses/Primal Scream/The High/Inspiral Carpets/The Smiths/The Seahorses/Shed 7/808 State/Death In Vegas/ New Order/Freebass & Snow Patrol among others. They performed 2 songs live on BBC Ireland’s ‘The 11 th Hour’ music show & STV News showed their live performance from Stockton On Tees with a 10 minute exclusive on the band hosted by music journalist & radio presenter Billy Sloan. They recently did a spot on Sky News to coincide with the release of new Stone Roses material. They have been mentioned in the book about Ian Brown – Already In Me, the updated version of John Robb’s book, simply titled ‘The Stone Roses’ & The Stone Roses book titled ‘War & Peace.’ The publications the band have featured in - include The NME, Melody Maker, Q Magazine (Alex James column – Blur), The Sunday Mail, The Daily Record, The Sun, The Irish Times, The Yorkshire Evening Press, The Evening News, The Big Issue North, Konnect Magazine & so on.

Resurrection have played many sold out shows all over the UK & Ireland to hundreds of thousands of Stone Roses fans, including 6000 at Bowlers Manchester, 1900 Barrowland Glasgow, 6500 at The Point Theatre in Dublin alone & were given this show from none other than Mr ‘Ian Brown’ himself. The band toured for a total of 3yrs alongside Mani, Clint Boon/Tom Hingley & Oasis DJ Phil Smith & had many great nights together on tour. Some quotes from this period in the bands history are mind blowing, with Mani quoted as saying “They do the songs justice & sound better than we did before we split”. The quotes & reviews are astounding from their live performances around the UK & Ireland. The band reformed in Aug 2014 after a 10+yrs hiatus & sold out over 28 shows in a 12 month period. Their shows continue to sell out around the country.

Resurrection perfect the sound from The Roses records/CD’s & pride themselves on this sound, not the Roses ‘live sound.’ Come along & make your own judgement as we don't suggest to be the UK's best or even the World's best tribute act, as some Roses tribute bands are claiming! We want the fans to make up their own minds & not be misled by claims & suggestions to the contrary.

    Members are as follows;
Ricky Toner – Vocals aka (Ian Brown)
Jerry Levy – Guitar aka (John Squire)
Matt Checkley – Bass aka (Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield)
Mathew Hurst – Drums/vocals aka (Alan ‘Reni’ Wren)

    Quotes:
"They sound better than we did before we split" (Mani) The Stone Roses
“They do the songs justice”. (Mani) The Stone Roses
“They’re still the best tribute to The Stone Roses around”. (Mani) The Stone Roses Dec 2015
"Great bunch of guys, excellent show"! (Chris Helme) The Seahorses
"What a great band, total class". (Rick Witter) Shed 7
“They are a fantastic band & sound like The Stone Roses”. (Clint Boon) Inspiral Carpets “Such a great band live & they blew me away with just how good they really are”. (Tom Hingley) ex Inspiral Carpets
“They swaggered on to the stage, as the original Roses would have done and tore straight in to a mammoth set filled with all the tunes you’d expect to hear. These lads are the business and by far the closest to the real thing as you’re ever going to get”. (Richard Edwards) Yorkshire Evening Press

    Fri 11th Nov 2022 | Opium

GODFLESH will make a long awaited return to Irish shores in November 2022. See them at Opium, Dublin on the 11th and Limelight 2, Belfast on the 12th.

Godflesh are an English experimental metal band from Birmingham. They were formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) after Broadrick left the first recorded line up of Napalm Death on the SCUM album and G. C. Green (bass) and temporarily disbanded in 2002. Melding influences ranging from electronic music to dub, Godflesh’s innovative music is widely regarded as a foundational influence on both industrial metal and post-metal.

Signing to Earache Records in the late 1980s, the band released their debut, Streetcleaner (1989) to critical acclaim. After releasing 1992’s Pure and 1994’s major label debut Selfless, they started experimenting with live drums, as well as hip hop and breakbeat influences. The resulting releases, Songs of Love and Hate(1996) and Us and Them (1999), were followed by Hymns (2001). Broadrick ended Godflesh in 2002 shortly after Green’s departure and pursued various other projects, including Jesu. Broadrick and Green reformed Godflesh in 2010 releasing A World Lit Only by Fire (2014) and later Post Self (2017).

    -- -- -- -- --

PUSSY RIOT is a Russian feminist protest art collective based in Moscow. Founded in March 2011, the group staged unauthorised provocative guerrilla punk rock performances in unusual public places, which were made into music videos and posted on the Internet. The collective's lyrical themes included feminism, LGBT rights, and opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom the group considered a dictator. `

They gained global notoriety when five members of the group staged a Punk Prayer performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior in 2012. On August 17, 2012, three Pussy Riot members - Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Ekaterina Samutsevich were convicted of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred", and each was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.

In December 2016 Maria Alyokhina and music producer Alexander Cheparukhin started a new project - RIOT DAYS (initially REVOLUTION) - a play based on Alyokhina's RIOT DAYS (book). Later Riot Days was published in UK, USA, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary.

Riot Days is produced by Alexander Cheparukhin and directed by Yury Muravitsky - one of the leading Russian theatre directors, now the artistic director of legendary Taganka Theatre in Moscow.

The show is an innovative combination of live music, theatre and video. It’s a personal story of Alyokhina as a member of Pussy Riot: actions in Red Square and the Cathedral, arrest, court, prison.

Riot Days has toured all over the world, it gave more than 200 performances in most of Europe, USA, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. The project has received prestigious international awards, including Herald Angel Award and Total Theatre Award of Edinburgh Festivals.

    Riot Days is...

Maria (Masha) Alyokhina - author, actress
Diana Burkot (Kot) - singer, actress, electronics, drums (Diana is one of the founding members of Pussy Riot, she was one of Punk Prayer performers in the Cathedral)
Olga Borisova - actress, singer, Riot Days book editor
Taso Pletner - actress, singer, flute

    Vasily Bogatov - video
    Yury Muravitsky - director
    Alexander Cheparukhin - producer, subtitles

As if channeling another dimension where genres simply don’t exist, Rainbow Kitten Surprise find harmony in unpredictability, weaving together lyrical poetry, hummable melodies, and a rush of instrumental eccentricities. They quietly built an audience with Seven + Mary [2013] and RKS [2015] before serving up their 2018 full-length debut for Elektra, “HOW TO: FRIEND, LOVE, FREEFALL” – produced by Grammy Award-winner Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Sleeper Agent).

Igniting a two-year whirlwind, it brought the band’s total stream tally well past one billion, while they garnered widespread praise from Billboard,TIME, Vice, and NPR who described their sound as “…a mix of jam and indie and whatever else you can throw into the soup…very earnest, beautiful, political, loving rock n’ roll.”

Meanwhile, “Fever Pitch” marked their first Top 10 at AAA. Not to mention, they’ve  performed on “CBS This Morning Saturday,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” PBS’s “Austin City Limits,” and graced the bills of Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Osheaga, to name a few. Moving 80,000 tickets, they embarked on the sold-out Friend, Love Freefall Tour earmarked by a packed night at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and three consecutive gigs in Athens, GA—as chronicled on their first official live album, Live From Athens Georgia, which came out in 2021.

    Gashi

Genre-bending pop artist GASHI is set to make his Irish debut this November with an appearance at Opium, Dublin. The show, taking place on Mon 21st November 2022, kicks off his extensive UK and European tour.

Born in Libya, GASHI spent much of his young life as a refugee, moving from country to country. His family eventually settled in Brooklyn, NY, where he was introduced to music at a very young age. GASHI absorbed a melting pot of musical influences throughout his youth, resulting in the formation of his own unique sonic palette that blends together different genres of music. His dynamic sound led him to be signed by JAY-Z to Roc Nation and has allowed GASHI to collaborate with a wide range of talents ranging from Chris Brown to Travis Scott and Sting to Dua Lipa.

GASHI continues to defy and bend genres throughout his discography and has trophied countless global anthemic hits as well as critical acclaim. As a proud Albanian native, GASHI often draws on the infectious sound of the Balkans that has charmed and seeps through as the gold standard in pop.

Today, GASHI is the only male Albanian artist to chart on Billboard charts multiple times. In the last couple of years alone, GASHI has released two studio albums, sold out venues across the globe, and has accumulated over 1 Billion Streams with over 300 million video views worldwide. The New York Times cited GASHI as the “trap Phil Collins” and received co-signs from peers including Travis Scott and A$AP Rocky affirmed GASHI “as one of the dopest artists to come out of New York”. A trajectory that is supersonic and an impact that is undeniable, this is GASHI.

    -- -- -- -- --

The critically acclaimed West Coast-based experimental hip-hop trio, “clipping” consist of producers Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson, alongside multi-hyphenate MC, Daveed Diggs. Clipping initially rose to prominence with their debut album MIDCITY and follow up CLPPNG. In 2016 they released their opus, SPLENDOR & MISERY, a science fiction concept album that garnered international critical acclaim, including a Hugo Award nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation. This was only the second time ever a music album was nominated, putting them up against the likes of GAME OF THRONES and BLACK MIRROR. Their follow up, THE DEEP, garnered similar attention including another Hugo Award nomination as well as influencing a Simon & Schuster published novel of the same name. Most recently the band diverted from their sci-fi storytelling and released a horror-based concept album, THERE EXISTED AN ADDITION TO BLOOD. Line of Best Fit’s Jack Bray hailed it as “sonically intriguing” and “another successful experiment for the group and one of the eeriest examples of modern hip-hop to date.” This was followed up by their acclaimed ‘sequel’ album, VISIONS OF BODIES BEING BURNED.

"Despite being something of a hip-hop dilettante, I can’t help feeling Clipping are pushing the boundaries of what a hip-hop album can sound like. The combination of Diggs’s hyper-enunciated double-time flow, William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes’s twisted industrial production, and high-concept albums strikes me as original. Lock your doors, run upstairs, and put Visions of Bodies Being Burned on, because as Diggs says in the introduction to the album, “the beast is hitting beneath”. ~ The Quietus

KLANGPHONICS are a trio that produce and perform live electronic music. By using a combination of electronic elements and acoustic instruments they bridge the gap between producer and live band. This results in a very natural, organic sound, whilst still retaining the energy associated with deep house and melodic techno.

Without the opportunity to play live, the trio used social media to reach their audience. Their videos, in which they play well known techno and house songs with acoustic instruments, have been viewed by millions and also got approval from famous producers like Boris Brejcha or Victor Ruiz.

KLANGPHONICS can now finally bring their distinctive form of live techno music to venues around Europe and perform their music in the context for which it was always intended. Acoustic meets electronic, producer meets band, concert meets club night.

“More fun than fusion has any right to be.” – Rhythm Magazine (UK)

Over the past decade, The Aristocrats – guitarist Guthrie Govan (Steven Wilson, Hans Zimmer, Asia/GPS), bassist Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Dethklok), and drummer Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson, Joe Satriani, Steve Hackett) – have established themselves as one of the most musically original, refreshingly irreverent, and astoundingly entertaining instrumental rock-fusion acts on the planet. Anyone who’s witnessed their live musical high-wire act – employing random amounts of rock, jazz, pop, metal, country, and anything in between – feels the spirit of a true band, one whose improvisational soul allows for anything to happen onstage at any moment…including the occasional Frank Zappa-influenced wink and nod at the audience.

The buzz from their supposedly one-off debut gig at the Anaheim NAMM show in 2011 led to The Aristocrats self-titled debut album. Tracked in just eight days, The Aristocrats [2011] was hailed as an instant classic in leading music publications worldwide, appearing on many of that year’s top ten lists. Over the next decade, The Aristocrats proceeded to make three more critically acclaimed studio albums, two of which landed in the Billboard Top 10 Jazz Chart (jazz? ok, sure). Several world tours resulted in three live albums, the most recent of which – FREEZE! Live In Europe 2020 – was a poignant document of the band peaking on the You Know What…? tour, captured just two weeks before the COVID era began.

The Aristocrats will make their long-awaited return to the stages of North America this summer, for the ten-week, 50-show DEFROST tour. Audiences starved for some trademark Aristocratic musical mayhem will be treated to a debut of select new material not yet released on any album, as well as a carefully curated collection of fan favorites and deep cuts. They’ll also be promoting their first-ever orchestral collaboration. The Aristocrats With Primuz Chamber Orchestra, a lush and lavish musical reimagination and sonic reinvention of songs from throughout the band’s storied four-album catalog, will release in June, just before the tour begins.

The ultra-power-trio issued a joint statement to mark the occasion: “We’re beyond thrilled to get back out there and do what we do best – playing together, live and loud, in the same room – for our amazing fans who’ve been so generous with their support of what we do as a band. Even though modern technology is great, we wanted to wait until we were physically together before playing any new material, because that’s just how we do it. That’s finally going to happen right before we head out on the road, so it will be really fresh and exciting. We can’t wait!”
